As leading suppliers of wholesale meat in the Western Cape, we love all things protein, and we pride ourselves on our core values of quality, service and delivery. Did you know the word ‘protein’ comes from the Greek word proteios which means ‘holding the first place’ or ‘primary’?

The snack menu has moved on (thankfully!) from being just a sad little bowl of nuts sitting on a bar counter somewhere to something far more exciting. As a society we are living increasingly busy lives and today’s patron doesn’t always want the full dining experience, sometimes we just want something quick and tasty – think charcuterie boards filled with the best quality meat Cape Town and Johannesburg have to offer – to enjoy with our glass of wine, or simply on the go.

We’re a nation that loves meat and quite honestly, what’s not to love. We’re said to consume around 2.9 million tons of poultry, beef and pork per annum. So yes, it’s fair to say we’re meat lovers. Christmas is a time for family and friends to gather together, celebrate wonderful traditions and enjoy delicious food. Christmas lunch differs from home to home – for some it’s roast turkey or a leg of lamb, for some it’s grilled Halaal fish, and for others it’s anything they can fit onto their braai grid. But have you ever wondered what Christmas lunch was like years back – way, way back – 375 years back to be exact?

Freezers are probably one of the most useful modern conveniences, without them how could we plan ahead and stock-pile what we need. Part of being a responsible wholesale meat supplier is ensuring that every precaution is taken to assure food safety, but it’s what you do with it afterwards that guarantees continued safety from storage to freezing to cooking. Too often we freeze foods without following the correct procedures or we leave items in the freezer indefinitely not knowing if they’re still safe to eat.
