Food Trends for 2022: Umami goes big

Most often thought of as fast food, the humble burger has come a long way since it first gained recognition at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair where it was referred to as ‘the innovation of a food vendor on the pike’.  Elevated to almost cult-like status, today most menus will boast some form of bistro or gourmet burger, and people are always on the hunt for the best burger in town. The ostrich is the world’s largest bird – it stands up to 2.7m tall and can weigh as much as 159kg. The exact origin of hamburgers may well be disputed – was it German immigrants who brought Hamburg Steak over from the motherland or was it a certain Charlie Nagreen in Wisconsin who began selling flattened meatballs on two slices of bread who can claim the title of ‘it all began with me’? Regardless of origin, what is undisputed is the world’s subsequent love affair with this delectable meal.
